The story of the place
Sri Raghavendra Swamy was born in Bhuvanagiri around 1595 as Venkatanatha, to Thimmanna Bhatta and Gopikamba. He later became the pontiff Sri Raghavendra Tirtha and entered the Brindavana at Mantralayam on the banks of the Tungabhadra.
His birthplace in Bhuvanagiri has been turned into a shrine. Devotees come here from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and across Tamil Nadu, often as part of a wider yatra that includes Chidambaram and the Navagraha temples.
Visiting
The shrine is generally open in the morning (around 6 to 11 am) and evening (around 4 to 8 pm), with entry free. Timings can change on special days such as the Aradhana, so please confirm locally.
Dress modestly, and plan to be there for the morning or evening pooja if you can.
Staying close by
Bharathi Homestay is about 190 m from the Matha, a two-to-three-minute walk. That makes early-morning darshan easy for families and elders, without arranging transport each time.
Each flat is an entire air-conditioned 2BHK with a kitchen in some flats, so groups of devotees can stay together and cook their own meals. Read more on our page for devotees.
